It will be Zombies

zombie sketch #2I’ve always wanted to paint a zombie painting. They have been in my dreams from the first time I saw Night of the living Dead(1968) and Dawn of the Dead(1978). As everyone has different dream symbolism, zombies in my dreams have always represented change; “Out with the old, and in with new” kind of change. Whenever it was time to leave a relationship or end a phase of my life I would have one of these dreams. For example, when I worked at Pearl Paint 21 years ago, I had a dream that the store was surrounded by these ghouls and a siege type situation was inevitable if I didn’t cut and run. In the conscious world, I knew I needed a change. I quit working there and embarked on the bumpy road of being a freelance artist. It was difficult at first, but I eventually found my stride and am thankful I was able to figure it out. This artist life has an odd ebb and flow to it. It takes a certain kind of mentality to traverse it’s windy uncertain path. But enough on that, . . .

I’ve been invited to participate in a show dedicated to and sponsored by the band Metallica. It is called Obey Your Master  http://www.exhibitagallery.com/2011/08/obey-your-master-art-tribute-to-metallica/

So my first painting of the new year will involve zombies!

Tentacles

sketch for Bigby wakes up with tentacles Morning Tentacles

Bigby woke up with a strange sensation. He lost his sense of smell, but it was as if he could taste the air.

After I finished the bookcover for “The Call Of Cthulhu”, I noticed that there have been lots of artists drawing and painting tentacles as of late; some with stripes, some with interesting textures and some with suckers. I prefer the ones with out the suckers.
